When getting ready to leave

It’s astonishing how much we subconsciously allow material things to burden our lives. Challenge yourself to stop buying anything and everything except food obviously. Pretty soon you’ll realize how much we consume without even considering it. Think about this, for instance.. you already have enough clothes for work, guaranteed, keep wearing them until you absolutely can’t anymore. The purpose is to make money, right, so why do I spend so much money on clothes etcetera that doesn’t matter. Why decorate the office? Stop creating demand for things hardly noticed in life, just to create a dilemma later when you try to get rid of all the trash you’ve been buying.

For the 6 months prior to leaving the US, everything I wanted to buy, I would ask myself, is this going to fit in my suitcase? And… is this more important than everything else that I want to put in my suitcase?

The amount of extra money you’ll have to pay down debts or save will be immense!

In the end when I packed, I didn’t have much space at all, probably half of the stuff that I did buy to take didn’t fit in my bags, so it just took money from me, and created more that other friends and family have to deal with storing or selling.

It’s extremely difficult selling stuff too, start now, and as you have less and less, you have more time to do things that you truly enjoy! 😁 With that in mind, try not to buy new things either, you have time, have a list and see what you can find second hand, plenty of people are back from from their voyages and have what you’re thinking of buying new.
